Slow-Draining Water
Sinks, showers, or floor drains taking longer than usual to empty
Acting early keeps a small blockage from becoming a flooded floor or a damaged pipe.
A blocked drain rarely fixes itself. Water backs up, smells set in and a small blockage can turn into a flooded laundry or a damaged pipe. Sewage and toilet backups also create a health risk inside your home or business.
NCP Plumbing provides blocked drain repairs across Sydney, from the North Shore and Hills District to the Northern Beaches. If water is rising, sewage is coming up or more than one drain is affected, call us straight away. For burst pipes or active leaks, see our emergency plumbing service.
Catching a blockage early means a quicker clear and a smaller repair. Call NCP Plumbing if you notice any of these.

Helpful answers before you call.
It can be. Call straight away if sewage or water is coming up inside, more than one drain is blocked, or water is close to electrical items. A single slow sink can usually wait for the next available booking, but do not leave it for weeks. Blockages grow, and the repair gets bigger and more expensive.
Slow-draining sinks and showers, gurgling pipes, bad smells, water backing up and pooling around outdoor drains are the main signs. If several fixtures drain slowly at once, the blockage is likely in your main drain.
Stop using the affected fixtures and anything that sends water down the same line, such as the washing machine and dishwasher. Move valuables away from overflow areas and keep children and pets clear of sewage. Please do not pour in chemical cleaners, as they can burn skin and damage pipes.
The price depends on what is blocking the drain, where it is and how easy it is to reach. A blocked kitchen sink costs less to clear than a tree-root blockage in an underground sewer line. We give you a clear price before work starts, so there are no surprises. Call 0404 548 050 or request a quote online.
Yes. Roots grow into small cracks in older pipes in search of water, then thicken and trap waste. If your drain blocks repeatedly, especially near large trees, a CCTV inspection will confirm whether roots are the cause.
We use a CCTV drain camera when the cause is unclear, when a drain keeps blocking or when you suspect pipe damage. It shows us the blockage and the condition of the pipe, so we can recommend the right repair.
We do not recommend them. They often fail on serious blockages, can damage older pipes and are hazardous to handle. They can also make the job unsafe for the plumber who clears the drain afterwards.
Generally, you are responsible for the pipes inside your property boundary, and Sydney Water looks after the public sewer main. If you are not sure where the blockage is, we can inspect the line and tell you. If it is in the public main, we will advise you to contact Sydney Water.
Keep fats and oils out of the sink, use drain strainers in showers and kitchens, and only flush toilet paper. Wet wipes and sanitary products should go in the bin, even when the packet says flushable. Have recurring problem drains inspected, and book regular drain cleaning if you have older pipes or large trees nearby. For more advice, read our easy tips to open blocked drains.
